FAQs

What does a civil celebrant do?

A celebrant is authorised by the government to conduct civil ceremonies, or a non-religious marriage ceremony. A celebrant will write and conduct the ceremony and help a couple complete the necessary legal requirements to get married.

What are the rules to get married in Australia?

The Marriage Act 1961 and Marriage Regulations 2017 set the rules for getting married in Australia. Apart from being people who set the entire vibe of the ceremony, authorised celebrants can expertly advise you on these rules and walk you through the entire process to getting legally married in Australia. It is important to note that celebrant can not offer immigration advice – you must seek advice from an immigration lawyer for anything related to visas.

How do I choose a celebrant?

Choosing a celebrant is a personal decision that a couple needs to make based on their needs. There are many factors to consider, like the atmosphere that you want to create on the day, your budget, the guests who are attending and what you value as a couple. Remember the ceremony is the most emotional part of the day and an opportunity to to share your story with the world.

I’m happy to jump on a quick Zoom with you for a no obligation ‘vibe check’ to ensure I’m the right match for your special day. If you want a playful and modern celebrant who can write heartfelt poetry and don a fabulous outfit – I’m your gal. Or, if I’m not right for you, no worries!

How soon can I get married?

In Australia you need to complete a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) with an authorised marriage celebrant at least 1 month before the wedding.

How much does a celebrant cost?

Celebrants range in price, anywhere from $500 to $3000, depending on the services they offer, the level of personalisation and their experience in the field. In the past celebrants might have had a simple templated approach, though now many celebrants create a personalised script that tells the story of a couple in a truly memorable way.

It’s important to keep in mind the costs and time spent to become a qualified celebrant (including getting a certificate), as well ongoing registration costs, setting up a business, handling legal paperwork, providing the P.A. equipment and the time spent working with a couple to create each ceremony.

As a professional writer I offer a unique ceremony that your guests will remember forever. I have three packages available that range in cost depending on whether you want a simple ‘legals only’ ceremony, a small wedding or the full package with an original custom framed poem you can keep forever. Simply get in touch and we can chat about your vision for your event.

How do I book?

Once you’ve decided you want to work with me, you need to request a booking with the date and location of the wedding. If I am available we can get started on the paperwork. I will require a non-refundable booking fee of $250 to lock in a date.

Do you travel?

Absolutely, I will travel for your wedding. Anywhere within a 50km radius of Melbourne CBD or within 50km radius of Ballarat is included in my cost. Outside of that I can certainly make it work, I will just need to charge an additional travel fee depending on the location.

How can a ceremony be tailored to us?

To help write the script for your perfect day, I will have you and your partner complete a form, as well as meeting with you to learn more about your relationship. From there I will craft a ceremony that I can share ahead to ensure you’re happy with the direction, or you can choose to be surprised on the day. I will be available to support you to write beautiful personal vows.

Will you write a poem for us?

Poetry is forever. If you select the full package, I will write you a personal love poem that will be printed and professionally framed for you to keep.
